US Customs Shipment Incident – May 4, 2025

Update as of June 10th

We encountered a delay in the transition of shipments between the customs authorities and our customs broker in the United States. However, we have now received confirmation from our customs broker that they are ready to passing all affected shipments to USPS. We anticipate receiving the first USPS tracking scans within the next one to two days.
Moving forward, we will continue to closely monitor the progress of these shipments and provide updates as they become available.

Summary

On May 4, 2025, a batch of Spaceship Air Economy (Tax Inclusive) shipments bound for the United States was flagged for inspection by US Customs. The shipments underwent additional review and remained in customs until their release on May 28, 2025. On that date, the tracking status was updated to "Customs released - Import." Spaceship is actively collaborating with the destination agent to retrieve the cargo and expedite its integration into the last-mile delivery network.

Background

The removal of the de minimis exemption for shipments originating from China and Hong Kong SAR has increased the level of scrutiny applied to imports. This regulatory change requires that shipments undergo either formal or informal entry procedures and mandates the payment of relevant duties, taxes, and customs fees. Consequently, there has been a surge in the number of shipments being inspected, which may result in longer processing times. On May 4, 2025, a batch of Spaceship Air Economy (Tax Inclusive) shipments was held by US Customs for inspection, and they were subsequently released on May 28, 2025.

What Happens Next?

The Spaceship operations team promptly took action to accelerate the delivery process. The cargo will be integrated into the last-mile delivery network, with tracking status updated continuously.

What Should I Do?

  2. Maintain Constant Communication with Your Customer: Reassure them that we are doing everything possible to ensure a smooth and timely delivery.

How Spaceship Is Addressing the Issue

  • Last Mile Delivery Coordination: We are working closely with our destination team to speed up last mile delivery.

  • Process Improvements: Spaceship suspended the Spaceship Air Economy (Tax Inclusive) service on May 8, 2025, and transitioned all orders to the Spaceship Air Premium (Tax Inclusive) channel. This alternative shipping option has demonstrated exceptional reliability, achieving a 100% customs clearance rate.
