1. Additional Handling Surcharges (AHS)

These apply when a package falls outside FedEx’s normal automated‑handling profile for Ground/Home Delivery.

1.1 AHS – Dimension

Definition
Surcharge for packages whose size exceeds FedEx’s standard dimensional limits but is still within the maximum size accepted for parcel service.

Condition

  1. Measures greater than 48 inches along its longest side

  2. Measures greater than 30 inches along its second-longest side

  3. Measures greater than 105 inches in length and girth — the length and girth is length plus (two times the height) plus (two times the width)

  4. Measures greater than 10,368 inches cubic volume (cubic volume is measured by multiplying length times width times height)


*Rating will be based on the greater of the package’s actual rounded weight or dimensional weight, subject to a 40-lb. minimum billable weight.

1.2 AHS – Weight

Definition
Surcharge for packages that exceed FedEx’s standard weight threshold for normal parcel handling.

1.3 AHS – Packaging

Definition
Surcharge for non‑standard or non‑conveyable packaging that requires manual handling or special care in the FedEx network.

Condition
  1. Not fully encased in an outer shipping container
  2. Is encased in an outer shipping container not made of corrugated fiberboard (cardboard) materials, including but not limited to metal, wood, canvas, leather, hard plastic, soft plastic (e.g., plastic bags), or expanded polystyrene foam (e.g., Styrofoam)
  3. Is encased in an outer shipping container covered in shrink wrap or stretch wrap
  4. Is encased in a soft-sided pack (e.g., courier packs, poly bags, and bubble mailers) that exceeds 18 inches along its longest side or 13 inches along its second-longest side or 5 inches in height  
  5. Is round or cylindrical, including (without limitation) mailing tubes, cans, buckets, barrels, tires, drums, or pails
  6. Is bound with metal, plastic, or cloth banding, or has wheels, casters, handles, or straps (e.g., a bicycle) (including packages where the outer surface area is loosely wrapped, or where the contents protrude outside the surface area)
  7. Could become entangled in or cause damage to other packages or the FedEx sortation system.

2. Oversize Surcharges (OS)

Oversize surcharges apply to very large parcels that exceed Additional Handling limits but are still accepted into Ground/Home Delivery.

2.1 Oversize

Definition
Fee for FedEx Home Delivery packages that exceed FedEx’s oversize dimensional thresholds.

Condition
  1. Measures greater than 96 inches along its longest side
  2. Measures greater than 130 inches in length and girth — the length and girth is length plus (two times the height) plus (two times the width) 
  3. Measures greater than 17,280 inches in cubic volume (cubic volume is measured by multiplying length times width times height);4  4) has an actual weight greater than 110 lbs.

3. Delivery Area Surcharges (DAS / DASE / Remote)

These apply based on destination ZIP/postal codes defined by FedEx, and are in addition to standard transportation charges.

3.1 Delivery Area Surcharge – Home Delivery (DAS – Home)

Applied per package when a shipment is destined for a residential ZIP in FedEx’s delivery area surcharge list.

3.2 Delivery Area Surcharge Extended – Home Delivery (DASE – Home)

Definition
Extended DAS for residential addresses in more remote or costly areas than standard DAS, but not fully “remote.”

Applied per package when a shipment is sent to a ZIP in the DASE residential list.

3.3 Delivery Area Surcharge Remote (Remote / Remote – Alaska / Remote – Hawaii)

Definition
Surcharge for deliveries to very remote locations requiring exceptional time, distance, or resources.

Condition
Applied per package when the destination ZIP is designated as Remote. Separate lists exist for continental US, Alaska, and Hawaii.

4 Residential Delivery Charge

Definition
Standard surcharge for delivering to a residential address, reflecting higher last‑mile cost compared with commercial deliveries.

Condition
Automatically applied per package when FedEx classifies the destination as residential (including home‑based businesses).

5 Hazardous Materials

Definition
Surcharge for handling, transporting, and processing hazardous materials/dangerous goods in the network.

Applied when the shipment is declared and prepared as hazardous materials according to FedEx and regulatory requirements.

6 Unauthorized Package Charge

Definition
High penalty fee for packages that violate FedEx size/weight or service conditions but are discovered after tender and processed in the network.


Condition

  • Any package measuring more than 108 inches in length.

  • Any package measuring more than 165 inches in length and girth combined.

  •  Any package weighing more than 150 lbs.

These packages are unauthorized and may be refused, returned to the shipper, or disposed of by FedEx. However, at FedEx sole discretion, packages may be accepted and delivered. Rating will be based on the greater of the package’s actual rounded weight or dimensional weight, subject to a 90-lb. minimum billable weight. Package shape and dimensions may change during transit, which can affect the package’s dimensional weight and surcharge eligibility. If the dimensions change during transit, FedEx may make appropriate adjustments to the shipment charges at any time.

7 Address Correction

Definition
Fee for correcting or completing an incorrect or incomplete delivery address.


Condition
Applied when FedEx must change the address after pickup (e.g., wrong ZIP, missing unit number, wrong street).

8. Shipment Interception Fee

Definition
Surcharge for intercepting or changing the disposition of a shipment already in transit (e.g., return to sender, change address, hold at location).


Condition
Applied per package when the shipper or recipient requests a delivery change after FedEx has accepted the package and the change is successfully processed.

Return Handling Fee

Local Return Handling Fee

If delivery of the parcel is unsuccessful and it is returned, the return handling fee is HKD85 per parcel plus a new shipment charge, and the total return and redelivery handling time is 40–60 days.
